About Irv Otis

This scholarship is given in honor of Irv Otis, a very well respected past President of IISE GDC and the founder of the Industrial Engineering Institute of Research and Technology. He wrote and published many papers on various industrial management subjects and authored two textbooks.

Irv served as Adjunct Professor at University of Michigan - Dearborn, Wayne State University, University of Detroit, and an instructor for Central Michigan and Wayne State Universities. He retired after 28 years of management in industrial engineering at Chrysler, American Motors / Renault Staff, and Toledo Jeep Factory. His expansive knowledge was gained from many visits to Japan, Europe, and numerous plants throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Irvin Otis received his Masters Degree in Business Management from the University of Detroit and his B.A. Degree in Industrial Management from Yankton College, South Dakota.

About the Scholarship

The scholarship candidate must show that he/she is dedicated to the Industrial Engineering profession and IISE. Being involved in programs with their school and promoting the discipline of IE are excellent examples. Being involved in the leadership of their local IISE chapter is also an excellent demonstration of what is required of a successful candidate.

Each school's Student Chapter Faculty Advisor submits a worthy candidate from their school to the MI Chapter President. The Faculty Advisor can use any process to determine who the candidate from their school will be. The MI Chapter Board of Directors will identify scholarship recipients by the end of the calendar year (December 31).
