Board Responsibilities

  • Oversee Chapter Activity; submit deliverables on time to HQ; maintain relationships with universities, community organizations, businesses, other professional organizations, IISE HQ, RVP, etc
  • Submit Chapter Strategic Plan to RVP (January)
  • Oversee submission of CAR (February)
  • Oversee submission of taxes (April)
  • Oversee and Tally Results of Board of Directors Election (December)

Executive Vice President
  • Assist the President as required to achieve yearly objectives
  • Coordinate special events (i.e. symposiums) and lead any special committees as necessary
  • Assist other board members on delegated duties
  • Lead efforts to compile content for the quarterly newsletter
 VP Administration
  • Take meeting minutes at monthly board meetings; distribute meeting minutes to board members and webmaster to publish on the web
  • Maintain board member contact information and send to webmaster as necessary for website
  • Responsible for maintaining updated contact information for Board Members and Student Chapters
  • Complete Officer Slate and submit to HQ & RVP (December)
VP Finance*
  • Manage funds in all IISE Detroit accounts
  • Provide checks/cash needed for programs (coordinate with another board member for programs you cannot attend)
  • Complete and submit Chapter Financial Report to HQ & RVP (April)
  • Complete and submit Form 990-N (ePostcard) to IRS (April)
  • Provide account summary at each board meeting
VP Programs
  • Arrange programs schedule and ensure needed speakers/presenters, locations, equipment are secured for events
  • Communicate programs info/updates to Newsletter/Email VP and Webmaster in accordance with email schedule
  • Provide programs update at each board meeting
  • Track program attendance (coordinate with another board member for events you cannot attend); email program satisfaction survey to attendees
  • Assemble CAR (Chapter Activity Report) and submit to HQ (February)
VP Webmaster
Website & Domain
  • Maintain/update/enhance website, as needed
  • Upload meeting minutes and newsletters
  • Manage yearly domain and website renewal
  • Increase search results visibility and monitor Google Analytics
  • Provide website update at each board meeting
VP Communications
 eMail Campaign Manager
  • Create and distribute email campaigns, as needed (minimum quarterly newsletter distribution)
  • Manage email accounts (primarily set forwarding rules) for the board
  • Manage and email accounts
  • Gather material & publish quarterly newsletter (Mar, Jun, Sept, Dec)
  • Submit National Newsletter Competition (December)
VP Membership


  • Download membership statistics monthly and communicate membership status to Newsletter/Email VP
  • Monthly, send Welcome emails to new members
  • Monthly, send reminder emails to expiring memberships
  • Monthly, send emails to those leaving the chapter for feedback
  • Coordinate annual Membership Survey process; survey creation and results analysis (August)
  • Provide membership update at each board meeting

Social Media

  • Post updates and events to social media
